VERB TENSES
Vídeo didáctico, aprender de manera entretenida !!
(Esta parte del temario sería explicada en español hacia niños de sexto de primaria, aunque considero que sería importante explicarla de una manera gradual y leyendo algunos ejemplos en inglés para familiarizar el oído de los alumnos desde este curso).
I am going to talk about the different verb tenses and how we use them. I have included some examples (made by me), and an activity (another page in this blog), that I have created in order that kids can learn while they are playing
-PRESENT:
Present Simple: We use it to talk about general facts (China is a huge country), habits and routines (I walk five miles every morning). We also use it to talk about our thoughts or feelings (I am sad today) and it is used in reviews and commentaries (Christian Bale plays a great character in that film).
Present continous: This is the tense that we use to talk about something that is happening at the moment (I am reading a great book), to indicate a progressive change or progress (He is improving his university marks), and to talk about habitual actions (Be careful, you are smoking too much).
-PAST:
Past Simple: We use this tense to speak about something that happened in the past (He began his career ten years ago) , to say something about a situation that existed over a period of time (I lived in Madrid for a long time) and to talk about regular actions that took place in the past (We were to that camp every summer until we moved).
Past Continuous: We use the past continuous to talk about repeated actions or continued states in the past (The babies were crying the whole night). We also use it to describe a continuous situation that is interrupted by other past action (I was smoking when it started to rain). It is also used to describe the scene of a story (It was raining cats and dogs and she was feeling miserable).
Present Perfect: We use the present perfect to mention past events without a specific time (They have bought a lot of properties) and to talk about situations that started in the past but still exist (I have been working for this company since 2001). We also use it for past actions at a non-ended time (I have studied a lot this week) and for recent past actions (I have just sent you the documents).
-FUTURE
There is only one tense called future, but there are many other ways to express a future idea by using other tenses or some verb phrases.
“Will” Future:
Will: is a particular modal verb that we use to form the future sense.
We use it for making predictions or saying that something is planned to happen (I think you will have good luck with your new job). Use the future if you want to say something that can be expected to happen (If you don’t study, you’ll fail that test) and for offerings and requests (Will you help me with my birthday party? Of course, I will decorate the living room.)
“Be going to” Future:
This is a very common way of expressing future.
